How to protect your skin from sweat, bacteria, & other communicable, icky cooties
The Threat
1. Sweat
What it is:
Sweat isn't just water — it comes from your bloodstream, carrying salt, urea, and metabolic waste. When it sits on your skin, it creates a breeding ground for bacteria.
The Risk:
Clogged pores, breakouts, irritation, stinkiness
2. Sebum
What it is:
Your skin's natural oil production kicks into overdrive when you're hot and active. Mix that with sweat and dirt, and you've got a congestion cocktail serving up acne’s most favorite snack.
The Risk:
Blocked pores, inflammation, zits! So many zits.
3. Dirty Hands
What it is:
Gym equipment is covered in bacteria, sweat, and residue from dozens (or hundreds) of other people. Your hands pick up all of it.
The Risk:
Transferring bacteria to your face, eyes, and mouth → infections, breakouts, illness
4. Ringworm & Fungal Infections
What it is:
Fungi thrive in warm, moist environments (aka gyms). Ringworm, athlete's foot, and jock itch spread through shared surfaces, mats, and equipment.
The Risk:
Itchy, inflamed, infected skin that takes weeks to clear
5.Shared Surfaces
What it is:
Yoga mats, weight benches, locker room floors — all harbor bacteria like staph, strep, and MRSA.
The Risk:
Skin infections, folliculitis (infected hair follicles), boils
Protection
Step 1: Wipe Down Equipment Before and After Use
Use gym-provided disinfectant wipes. Don't trust that the person before you did it.
Step 2: Bring Your Own Towels — and Use Them
Place a clean towel between your skin and shared surfaces. Face towel separate from body towel. Always.
Step 3: Keep Your Hands Off Your Face
Seriously. Don't touch your eyes, nose, or mouth until you've washed your hands. This is the single most effective protection. The risk of catching herpes at the gym is unlikely, but it’s not zero.
Step 4: Wash Your Hands and Body Immediately After
Use soap and warm water. Scrub for at least 20 seconds. Sing happy birthday if you’re not sure how long 20 seconds is. Don't skip this step — even if you're "just going home to shower."
Step 5: Cleanse Your Face With Clean, Dry Hands
After washing, use the KYPRIS Cleanser Concentrate to remove sweat, oil, and bacteria from your face. Clean, dry hands only — don't contaminate your product or recontaminate your skin.
Step 6: Care For Your Skin Barrier
Apply an effective moisturizer like KYPRIS Puff of Love to support a healthy, beautiful skin barrier. Sometimes your best defense is a good offense… with yes, moisturizer.

Step 7: Cover Up When Possible
Wear clean workout clothes that cover your skin, especially if you're using shared equipment or lying on gym mats. Less skin-to-surface contact = less risk.
The Bottom Line
Your skin is your first line of defense.
Protect it at the gym the same way you protect it everywhere else: with intention, cleanliness, and barrier support.
Because glowing skin starts with cleanliness & an effective beauty ritual… and avoiding ringworm.
