A favorite personal life lesson: I was young when I started doing doula work and I worried that no one would take me seriously. I was offering services around pregnancy and birth—something I’d never personally experienced. But that lack of first-hand experience actually allowed me an objective and non-judgmental approach to the work, which proved to be deeply valuable. I’ve retired from doula work but I carry that lesson with me. Sometimes it isn’t your personal experience but your power of observation that matters most.
